Thanks to:

I was able to give Google Reader a try for a week as my "production" blog reading tool, and I have to say that I am totally hooked. I've de-installed the "Blogs" account in Thunderbird and not looking back. The Google Reader interface is so clean and the keyboard shortcuts are designed to keep the most important features right on the home keys so you don't need to use the mouse. It makes blasting through hundreds of feed entries per day something I can accomplish in a short time. I use their "star" feature to mark the entries that catch my interest for digging into in more detail later. They even have an easy "share" feature I haven't started using yet, but which lets you republish an RSS feed of the items that you mark for sharing.

My only wish for Google Reader's wish list is that it would make better use of a wide monitor. I recently got tired of envying a colleague's DELL 24" widescreen monitor (I see the price has dropped even more since when I bought it!) and invested in one for my home office. When I use Google Reader maximized on that screen there is a bit of wasted horizontal space, as shown in the screen shot below. Maybe the Googler's are listening to Reader-related blogs and might take notice... But other than this one little nit, I'm super happy with Google Reader. It has turbocharged my blog reading in a very measureable way.

Over the weekend I noticed this article in the San Francisco Chronicle about how Oracle has worked with the San Francisco Police Department to pull off something that's never been done before: close a busy street of traffic in the heart of the downtown to make a huge tent where lunch will be served to the 40,000+ attendees of this years Oracle OpenWorld conference that starts next week. If you'll be at the show, stop by my Tuesday 11:15am presentation on "Oracle ADF: Diving Deeper into Data Binding and Business Components" or stop by the "Oracle ADF" pod in the Oracle Demogrounds to say hi. We'll be there Monday through Thursday to answer any Oracle ADF questions you might have.

The new instructor-led training course for Oracle ADF is now available from Oracle University:

OracleAS 10g R3: Oracle ADF for Forms/4GL Developers

It has been run a few times already and I've heard positive feedback from attendees. Myself and others on our team helped review the course contents. The course teaches you how to use Oracle JDeveloper and the Oracle ADF framework to build JavaServer Faces applications, using ADF Business Components for the business tier. This is the recommended technology stack for Forms/4GL Developers, that Oracle itself uses for building its EBusiness Suite applications.

For more information and course schedules, see the Oracle University website here.
