Mac OS X 10.2.4 does make your whites whiter or bring peace to the Middle East. Might make it feel faster, however.

In fact, I can't determine a thing it has improved on my company PowerBook or home Dual 867. Others, such as AMUG, have documented speed increases throughout as a result of using 10.2.4. That's usually a good thing. I'm having a different problem with the 867 that began maybe a month ago. It's shutting down by itself.

My Directory Service error logs note the time, but I can't find a pattern. I'm going to to have to disconnect most of the accessories on this thing to see if its hardware-related and (heaven forbid) not a logic board-related problem. It could be OS related, in which case I'll borrow a TechTool repair CD from work. I've fscked the system several times (the next time, I'll be the one who's fscked) and even used Open Firmware reset commands. I strongly suspect the Belkin USB hub I have on this thing, which also turns itself off when it feels like it. Probably not coincidence.

In other news, the home of my former blog or, more specifically, Pyra Labs the company, has just been bought by Google. Weird. Blogger has been one of a handful of moderately-Mac-friendly blog hosts that I've noted, and I hope this doesn't change matters. A quick second opinion from the former co-founder of Pyra Labs, new iBook user, and a significant blog authority seems to believe that this is a good thing, giving Blogger much-needed financial resources. I tend to agree.

New programmers to OS X: Saw this interesting article on MacSurfer about problems in porting UNIX apps to Mac OS X.
