I've been really frustrated by the blatant spin on the purported bin laden tape. Everything I heard from the AP news reports on my local radio station to the cables news keeps pointing out how this is "proof" that there's not just a thread between al-Quaida and Saddam Hussain, but some kind of rigid steel rope. Anyhow, as others have noted, I've yet to find an American media outlet publish the whole transcript (courtesy of the BBC).
I did however find this wonderful translation on nealpollack.com, a site I'm going to have to check out more. Here's an excerpt:
Also, we are definitely teaming up with Saddam Hussein to destroy America. Ever since the infidel American forces began blowing up our caves in October 2001, our first priority has been a partnership with an unstable secular dictator whose wholly illegitimate government will crumble within six weeks in the face of the largest global military action since World War II. Saddam's political unreliability and breathtaking record of murderous corruption fits perfectly with our view of a world cleansed pure by the fires of fundamentalist Islam.

It's clear that I haven't been posting here terribly often, but it's not for lack of thinking about it. Well, lack of thinking about it has never been my problem. I do wonder, though, how many bloggers work jobs at which computers are inaccessible to them. Dang these folks and their obsessive documentation of the world around them, like flashlight spots on cave walls.
I have found myself habitually checking a number of blogs so long as I'm in range of a computer. They are quickly outranking google's news aggrigator in my hierarchy of news-checking. So many to mention, and you may well know many of 'em. Here's a couple: daily kos, atrios, and my dd are a good start, but I also check out Tom Tomorrow's blog -- nice insight into the mind behind the great "This Modern World" whose latest can be seen at workingforchange.com, which itself is a fine site.
