How often does politics make you cheer and laugh? Not nearly enough, I'm sure. To often it makes me want to cry and moan -- and when Texas is brought into the mix...oh man!
Well, The Dixie Chicks have some texans to be proud of. The Republican leadership of the Texas State House of Representatives, under apparent pressure from Mssrs. Rove and DeLay are trying to force through a redistricting plan that is so blatant in its attempt to squash the Dems that action was taken. With Democrats holding only 62 of the 150 seats, the redistricting plan was a guaranteed push-through.
So... the Dems up and disappeared. 59 of 'em shot out of state under cover of affinity groups and clandestine meetings so as to prevent quorum in the State House. No quorum, no vote. And they left the state, because the leadership wants them all arrested and forcibly brought in to ensure quorum; currently the republican members are in effective lock-down at the State House, in case.
Seeking permission to send the Texas Rangers into New Mexico to nab the disappearing Dems, Texas Governor Perry was given a strong and humerous rebuke by the NM Attorney General.
