Lilia Efimova is posting the early results of her forthcoming BlogTalk paper, based on a questionnaire answered by both current and would-be bloggers. There are various posts on Mathemagenic, including the answers to her open-ended questions, and her summaries of the motivation and job characteristics that support blogging.
There's a wealth of interesting stuff here about why people blog, what sort of people blog, and what they get out of it. I've only skimmed through the data but I'm sure there will be some good insights to come out of it. I'm currently working on using simple authoring tools (although not blogs in this case) to get wider participation in knowledge-sharing and I'll be taking a close look at Lilia's results to see what I can learn.
I look forward to reading Lilia's paper when it's finished.
