30-Second Book Review: What Einstein Told His Cook 2: The Sequel: Further Adventures in Kitchen Science
I'm almost done reading through What Einstein Told His Cook 2: The Sequel: Further Adventures in Kitchen Science, a thoroughly enjoyable book by food columnist Robert Wolke. Bob is the father of my former boss, but I'd say great things about this book even if that wasn't the case. This is the fourth book in Wolke's "Einstein" series and, as the lengthy title spells out, a sequel to his 2002 best-seller.

As in the first book, Wolke answers questions about food and food preparation in a breezy, pun-filled style. And once again, Wolke's wife, Marlene Parrish, provides recipes that complement the subjects of the book's essays.

The highlights come when Wolke debunks conventional wisdom about kitchen issues with simple experiments and reliable common-sense answers. Does marinating work? Why do we cook with wine? How do I get a wine stain out of my white tablecloth?

Whether you cook every day or use your oven as a place to store your sports equipment, "Cook 2" will help you appreciate what ends up on the plate in front of you.
