I decided to rent a postage machine from Pitney Bowes, you know one were I could put different accounts in and charge my clients for the total amount of stamps I used for them during a month - get automated and save trips to the post office, which would be great right? So I ordered the DM100 machine from Pitney Bowes, it has an auto feed, accounting, a scale so I didn't have manually figure out the postage stamp sizes and amounts - great little machine, one of my clients has the same machine. I had it for a week and finally got a chance to unpack it, set it all up and damn, it needs an analog phone line to connect to the outside world, I can't use it :(
Even though it has a USB port on the back of the machine, not one person at Pitney Bowes knew this and I asked when they were planning on coming into the technology digital world where people have cable modems and digital phone lines through their cable modems and they acted like it was such a new technology - geez, I've a cable modem phone line for the last 15 years, its not a new thing.
Then they offered to waive the fee for 3 months so I could get an analog line installed, now why the hell would I want to do that when my phone line works perfectly well. And I'd have to pay for the install and the fees from 3 months after that for a postage machine - not worth it.
Then they told me to try it at my home location where I had analog lines - did they just not listen to me, I was at home and I don't have an analog line. Then they try to sell me on the little postage machines with no scaled, no accounting features and no automated features - was there a point to that conversation, might as well just use stamps :)
After several stupid conversations with Pitney Bowes tech support and customer service dept, I cancelled the order.
I sent an email to their customer advocate and asked them to let me know when they can come into the voip world, that I'd definetly like to use the DM100 some day
and today I got an email from them promoting Packet 8's Hosted Telephone Solution - why would I want to use a hosted solution when their postage machines don't work with it?
