The tigger update - I didn't do anything wrong, they messed up or forgot all about me, I somehow got off their radar, fell through their cracks - no wonder I don't get referrals from them anymore. I filled out a certified dealer form back in 2004 and at that time they didn't have a certified implementation/consultant program so they waived the dealer fee/sales quota thing for me and set me up as a certifed trainer until they came up with a plan. I've been meaning to take their test for certifed trainer when it first came out towards the end of 2006 - just never got around to it - didn't realize it would cause such drama.
Apparently what they don't like is people using their software but not upgrading and then going to outside consultants not sanctioned by them for advice because if they're not upgrading to current version, then tigger isn't getting any revenue. I'm not going to say no to someone that needs help with an older version, I agree upgrading to the latest and greatest version is a good idea because some of the earlier versions have bugs in them but I can't twist someone's arm into upgrading, it their money. Also they don't support earlier versions and don't want anyone else to support it either. - so here's where they need to be a little more relaxed - Quickbooks wants you to upgrade and if you're using the payroll part of Quickbooks, you have to upgrade but in general if you're still using QB2004 which isn't supported by Quickbooks anymore, they aren't having a hissy fit that their are plenty of bookkeepers that still support it. And if you're a member of Quickbooks Accoutants/certified program and they would like you to get certified - they don't call every single member and leave nasty voicemails about not being sanctioned by them.
I told the guy last night that I've been using their program since the dos version, that I was a windows beta tester and have been consulting on it since then with approval from tigger or so I thought. Its a good program, I'd recommend.
He told me that their top certifed implementer was some guy at another company that sells an add-on product for tigger - I used that add-on product - don't like it and couldn't get tech support/actually couldn't get anyone to call me back on it and he's in philadelphia, he acted like this guy was god (maybe to him). The other top certifed person is a guy in South Carolina - I know him and talk to him every once in a while about implementation stuff. From what I had been told in the past, I was the number one recommended trainer for the west coast - umm, how did they forget about me exactly?
So in essence, they want to talk further on Monday to get everything straighten out, normally if I'd had gotten such a nasty voicemail, I wouldn't deal with it but its a vendor and a source of extra income for me + I didn't do anything wrong..looks like Tuesday, I'll be taking their test.
As far as the book I wrote, hmm, I'll check their 10.6 versions and see if the documentation has improved - if not, I have a client that is Intellectual Property lawyer and I'll check with him to see if its legal or not. Plenty of people out there have written Quickbooks documentation - its everywhere online and there are many other books on other software programs, so I don't know the legal course of writing a book on a software program but I'll find out before I distribute another one.
