Sacrifice Vs. Obedience Sacrifice Vs. Obedience
As believers, our sacrifices to the Lord are incredibly important. However, listening to and following God's guidance - shared with us from His Word, His Holy Spirit, and from His Church (fellow believers) - is even more important than our sacrifices.
God is more glorified and self more denied, by obedience than by sacrifice. It is much easier to bring a bullock or lamb to be burned upon the altar (or our modern day equivalents), than to bring every high thought into obedience to God, and to make our will subject to his will. Those are unfit and unworthy to rule over men, who are not willing that God should rule over them. (Matthew Henry Concise Commentary).
"To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices." Mark 12:33
Lord, please allow me to grow in the knowledge and depth of insight of your perfect Love - and allow me to share that Love and sacrifice because of that Love in order to obey your "first and second" greatest commandments.
