James 1:2-4: Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. Lord, today please help me to truly begin to understand your meaning of "joy" by helping me to be faithful enough to follow you through life's trails and testing. I confess that I am scared of these trials and testing and would not even face them on my own. Thank you for loving me so much that you provide the opportunity to face these trials/testing - so I can be mature and complete - and so that I can see first hand your overwhelming compassion and mercy. Glory be to your name.
