Health care firms put $3M to wireless prescribing

Wireless prescribing has been available for years, but now it seems with the announcements of several similar contracts, ROI has finally been considered acceptable for these services.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) and Tufts Health Plan (THP) will spend $3 million to fund an to offer physicians an e-prescribing program the firms say will improve patient safety and reduce medical costs.

The insurance companies say the plan will give about 3,400 Massachusetts physicians in both networks e-prescribing software developed by Dallas-based Zix Corp. on either BlackBerry Color PDA SmartPhones or wireless pocket PC devices.
