Tech slump coming to an end. The worst is over for the slump-stricken IT industry, say politicians and industry leaders at the giant CeBIT trade fair in Germany. [BBC News | Technology | UK Edition]

How often has I seen this headline over the last two years? They claim the slump is over because there's zero growth instead of contraction - sounds a bit premature although with all the hype over Wi-Fi these days there's at least one bright spot.

Maybe I should think about unwiring my home network.

I've spent loads of time messing with templates, colours and such stuff but now it is time to actually write something in the blog. I've been reading several such as Karlin Lillington and Bernie Goldbach for a short while so I reckon I should try it myself.

I work as an electronic engineer doing some embedded design, although most of my working life has been designing ICs for various technologies including storage technologies (Fibre Channel, SCSI, 1394), error correction coding, wireless (Bluetooth, GPS) . More recently I've popped out of the chips and into an eclectic range of systems that use them. This has included developing real-time signal analysis code for a Moto controller, architecting an interesting Wi-Fi system and a biometric access design.

I spend most of time working from home in my attic, under a velux window with a view of the estuary and railway bridge in Malahide, so I can see if there's wind for a spot of windsurfing or I'm late for the train.
