"Conversation. What is it? A Mystery! It's the art of never seeming bored, of touching everything with interest, of pleasing with trifles, of being fascinating with nothing at all. How do we define this lively darting about with words, of hitting them back and forth, this sort of brief smile of ideas which should be conversation?" Guy de Maupassant

Flickr - Total Immersion

Have you tried Flickr

Its the new service of Ludicorp Research and Development Inc., makers of The Game Neverending, and is currently in public beta.

First impressions ... i've only just joined up.  Intuitively i like it.  Its got a really neat UI, and has combined individual and group IM, sharing media - (swapping pictures) - and social networking .  What i miss in most other social networks is presence indicators and the ability to chat, at the moment i want to, without any effort, in one space.

The team behind Flickr seems to have understood this need well.

I also like the opt-out option; the classification of friends - Acquaintances, Friends, Best Buddies, Soul Mates; the privacy settings it allows you to set for contacts; the public and private group options.

Other features i'd like it to have - voice chat of the quality i get with Skype, video chat / conferencing with friends and groups, swapping more than pictures - MP3s and short videos for example.

Then i would know when a friend is available, could opt for either IM or voice, we could be listening to the same music in real time, and keep inviting friends old and new to the party.

Total Immersion !
