Remedy for a Wasp Sting
I alluded to this in the previous post, but I found an amazing fix for a wasp sting. I was stung yesterday while taking the mail out of our mailbox. The wasps had built a small nest underneath the mailbox and were protecting their territory. I ran in the house (like an eight-year-old) and went straight to the Internet (?!) to find out what to do. The site I found said to rub a cut onion on the sting as soon as possible. As it happened, my wife had just cut a vidalia onion for our dinner (liver and onions) and she held it on the stung area for about a minute. The pain subsided within that time, and the sting swelled only slightly. A few hours later, my knuckle felt a little stiff, but it was not sore and it certainly did not keep me from doing anything.
It's a great Website. If all the tips are this good, hurray for the Web, muh finga don't hurt no mo'.

The Appeal of Holistic Healthcare at a Party
I used to work in the computer software field. In fact, I think I was pretty good. I led quite a few successful big projects, wrote a book on the subject and was one of the first to recognize the e-Business wave.
But no one I can ever remember who was not in the software field themselves, ever got very excited about what I did. I could never explain it very well, and although everyone thought "that's a good area to make a lot of money" no one ever wanted to know any more than the basics of my work.
Now that I've switched to the holistic health field, everyone I know seems to be interested. (Maybe they're just being nice.) They want to know if I've met any MDs or DOs who use holistic methods (I have), if I know any folk remedies for relieving a bee sting (I do) and what the hell "reiki" is. I met with a friend today. She had told her mother what I do. Her mother exclaimed "I'd really like to meet that guy!"
Now, please understand I did not choose a new field of work to have something to talk about at parties. (Although that is a noble goal.) I chose it because holistic health is where my passion is. But, this has been an interesting side-effect (no pun intended) to my choice, and I must admit I enjoy the shift. I DO have something to talk about at parties now. I should probably carry around lists of holistically-minded physicians, modality definitions, stories of healing and all that other stuff. Plus, conducting the survey of thirty-eight practitioners in this field, I have learned a tremendous amount about a very interesting set of practices. If any, I have become more passionate about it. I guess I drank the purified, non-fluoridated water.
