In the AP story Tax Credits for Teleworkers Proposed (Feb 6, 2004), published by WXIA-TV ATLANTA reports on public policy actions being tested out at the state level. Working from home in Georgia could get you a $500 annual tax credit, while businesses could get a $5,000 credit under the measure introduced Friday by Rep. Kathy Ashe, D-Atlanta. Sponsors fo the bill hope to alleviate Atlanta trafiic congestion and promote better air quality.

The article Met Council chair speaks of ‘narrowed focus’ by Harvey T. Rockwood (Sun Newspapers, Feb 5, 2004), takes a look at a growing issue in Minnesota. Peter Bell, Gov. Tim Pawlenty selection for chairman of  the Metropolitan Council, is looking a a number of ways to deal with a "monumental task in coping with traffic congestion".  The proposed solution includes a mix of approaches, including encouraging telecommuting and other means of making more efficient use of existing roadways.

“[Traffic congestions] is clearly is the No. 1 livability issue in the minds of Twin Cities residents,” Bell said. He said 54 percent of the area’s residents consider it one of the top three problems, compared with 7 percent 10 years ago.
