If you haven't yet taken a look at the "Guest Shot" page on my website,
you'll want to do that soon and often. "Guest Shot" is where you
will find occasional pieces by other writers. A turkey hunting
story by Dave Richey was the first piece on that page. Dave's
story is now under "archives" for April. Here's a taste of the new
"Guest Shot" piece by fly-fishing writer Chris Halla:
"My first meeting with Buck was a nervous affair. I had fired up the gas
grill and unwrapped a pair of tenderloins when he appeared walking down
the road,
slowly, toward me. The nearer he drew, the more slowly he came. When
he arrived at the truck, he paused, then disappeared behind it. In a
moment he
reappeared, rounding the front end. He had dropped his front shoulders
slightly, his mouth was open, his teeth visible. There was no mistaking
the 'grrrrr'
that emanated from deep inside."
When I asked Chris if he had something I could post on this page, he
offered me "River Dogs," a previously unpublished piece that is
appearing here for the first time ever. This is way cooler than
you probably realize. Here's why: Chris is the publisher of
an occasional literary mini-magazine called "Page 5." I've
forgotten what "Page 5" signifies, if I ever knew. Maybe Chris
can enlighten us on that. Anyway, "Page 5" is a venue for
unpublished poems, stories and other writings, most of them by writers
other than Chris. I think it's neat to turn the tables on Chris
and publish something of his. Whether you are an angler or a dog
person or you just like to read something well written, I think you'll
enjoy "River Dogs."

I'll be on the road, turkey hunting in New York for the next few days,
so until further notice, to read my new posts, just click "On the Road"
