You know you're making some progress when your dear wife starts
dreaming about wild turkeys! This morning, Shivani told me she
dreamed she was outside somewhere in a bizarre desert-like landscape,
with our black cat Tai Chi (AKA, Tykie) tucked under her arm. She saw a
flock of turkeys that flew up into one large, leafless tree when they
saw her. There was a heavy fog and the sun was low behind the tree, so
the turkeys were all silhouetted with an eerie orange glow behind them.
"It was the most amazing thing I've ever seen," she said.
She ran to get me, but I was hanging out and talking with my brother
Pete. She said we should try to get a picture, so Pete and I jumped
into a vehicle and headed for the turkeys. Shivani knew that wouldn't
work, so she ran after us, waving and shouting, "No, no! You'll scare
the turkeys."
That's when she woke up, so I never got the photo.

Speaking of weird encounters with turkeys, an acquaintance of mine,
Chris Moore, shot a 23-pound tom yesterday morning. The bird was one of
two that came in to a fly-down cackle and attacked his
jake-breeding-a-hen decoy set up.
"My buddy was saying, 'Shoot one!' but I had to wait for them to stop bouncing on the jake decoy," he said.
When it was all over, the tom was down and the decoys were pretty beat
up. I've heard toms will sometimes attack a jake decoy, but I've
never seen it happen.
Another photo op missed!
