Thursday morning about 10:00, Shivani asked me what kind of duck flies throught the woods going "Screeee screeee screeee!"
"Long tail, fast wing beat?" I asked her.
"Yes," she said.
It was the only sighting we've had so far, even though the ice has been
off the neighbor's pond since last weekend. It is, however, the
earliest sighting we have had to date in our unscientific phenonlogical
record of wood duck returns.
In past years, we have seen one or two pairs on April 10, 11 or 12.
Last year, they showed up on April 8. This year, it was the 6th.
That sign doesn't equal drowning polar bears, but put it in the hopper
and tell me you don't think it all adds up to a warmer world.
Well, I'm turkey hunting today, calling for my novice hunter in
Wisconsin's Learn-to-Hunt program. Full report later. Gotta hit the
woods now.
Later...
