I was running on fumes this morning on my way to the recording studio to lay down another episode of my radio show with Judy Nugent.
Shivani and I got back from Fond du Lac at 11:00 last night, and I was
up before 5:00 this morning. That will actually be good practice for my
upcoming three weeks of turkey hunting, but it makes doing radio a bit
of a challenge. Judy and I got through it OK, tho, and you'll soon be
able to hear the latest program at that Lake Link link.
Sounds a little bit like a Warren Nelson song: "Gonna log onto Lake
Link with my Lake Link link, gonna learn about fishin' and how fish
think..."
I'll have to give Ol' Warren the idea and see what he can do with it.
The man is a genius with words and music, as anyone who has seen one
of his shows at Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua or heard Tent Show Radio will attest.
Last night, he and the Blue Canvas Orchestra played to a full house at
the Fond du Lac High School Performing Arts Center, and the audience
loved the show. They did the same selection of numbers from the Big Top
Chautauqua shows as they did Friday night in West Bend, and they were
as tight last night as they were on Friday.
Last night, Brian and Sabina Carter, of the Fond du Lac Seafood Company, Jeff and Sandy Kahlow, of Big Guy Hats,
and Fillet King marketing director Denise Dexter joined me and Shivani
for dinner at Oscar's Sportsmen's Bar and the show. Our caravan arrived
at the high school at 7:25, so Jeff and I grabbed a couple of Jeff's
hats and made a mad dash for the door. Waving our tickets at the
bewildered volunteer ticket takers (You'd never get past a hired usher
with that move.), Jeff and I raced down the side aisle looking for a
stage door. Finding none, we hopped up onto the stage, ducked behind
the curtain and began feeling our way around in the pitch blackness.
It turned out the door we wanted was stage LEFT, not stage RIGHT. Jeff
heard voices behind an overhead door, so we hustled under an exit sign
just in time to catch the cast and crew before they went onstage. Jeff
and I presented Warren with two hats and a Fillet King board and "Do it
on the Board!" carry bag, gave Tom Mitchell my souvenir bottle of
Doctor Third Eye's Genuine Lake Superior Wizard Water (to use as a prop for his opening sketch), and joined arms
with the gang in their pre-show circle.
Then we hustled to our seats in the balcony to enjoy the show.
Afterward, we joined Warren and the gang onstage for a photo session.
As they say in the community newspaper social pages, a good time was had by all!
