Boy, if there's one place we need a border patrol or some minutemen, it's on the Wisconsin/U.P. border. Dem Yoopers is tryin' ta swim da Menominee River to get to Cheeseland! Heck, a week ago, they coulda walked across on the ice, but no, they had to wait until Michigan State lost to UNC and now they're comin' across in droves!

On my last day in the Yooper Dome, I met the most interesting character of the whole trip [^] Don Anderson, who bought a Fillet King® from me and said he'd mention it on his website, 2lbgil.com. That's right, this guy has a bluegill website! Check out his underwater photos of big bluegills and other interesting bluegill info. He moved up here from southeastern Wisconsin a few years ago and has staked out a couple sleeper lakes with bluegills up to 15 inches long in them! (He hasn't caught one yet, mind you, but a couple kids he knows have and he had one on last summer that he couldn't raise off the bottom.)

A handful of Hemingway buffs are still looking for Nick Adams' brook trout honey hole, BTW, so "Lost Ark" crusades are common currency up here. So are former SE Wisconsinites-turned-Yoopers. I met a bunch of them who said they used to watch Outdoor Wisconsin on MPTV and now watch it on Saturday afternoons on WNMU, Ch. 13. If I lived in the U.P., I don't think I'd spend my Saturday afternoons watching TV. Well, maybe in the winter...

But it was definitely spring last weekend in the U.P. I took my skis along to make sure there wouldn't be a snowstorm, and by golly it worked! Looked for bears, moose and wolves on the way home, but the best the U.P. could muster was a pileated woodpecker.

After dinner at the Hong Kong Buffet in Escanaba, I dropped down along the lake on Hwy. 35 and slid across the Hattie St. Bridge back into Cheeseland. Not a bad drive in nice weather, and you couldn't want it any nicer for early April in the U.P.

Anyway, back home for awhile now, so I'll be posting from the Home Page again.

Later...
