Frank Patrick ran a recent article on multi-tasking. While I agree that it certainly makes sense that folks will actually FINISH tasks if they'd do them start-to-finish, I'm curious how many employees have that as a possibility. To not answer the phone. To not drop what you're doing for something the boss would like right away. To not handle the smaller matters that come up in the course of a day.
I think in order for this to work, the organizations would need to embrace the concept and offer support: Allow time for steady progress. Reward met deadlines. Have management meet deadlines. Discuss time management and prioritization.
