Welcome to the history of typography and graphic design course. This course is a summer course which runs for six weeks. In those six weeks we will try and do the impossible: examine how "visual" placement, images, and typography affect the way meaning is communicated. We will examine such concepts as "visual literacy", the relationship between art and graphic design, how images create meaning vs how "design" creates meaning. We'll also learn about the history of typography -- as the visual context of textual information. In this course we will experiment with visual affects using Photoshop. We'll also do some "hand" work with magazines, newspapers and the web examining how design and typography work together in certain media. 12:10:49 AM
