Is Microsoft really in talks aimed at buying scumware firm Claria (of Gator spyware fame)? Rumours abound. I have to assume, barring a denial from Microsoft, that there is some truth to the rumour. Unless I am missing something here (like they will purchase the company only to deliberately kill it off -- one can only hope), I can't think of many things that Microsoft could do to make my opinion of them sink lower.
It would seem like they are speaking out both sides of their mouth -- purchasing and distributing anti-spyware software and effectively calling malware/spyware a scourge on the internet and at the same time negotiating a purchase of the most well known spyware producer out there. Maybe they truly are the evil empire! I wonder where Robert Scoble stands on this issue. I wonder if he will risk speaking.
