SIPphone

Michael Robertson Unveils SIPphone [Slashdot]:

I wonder whether this has any chance of success. My experience makes me think that real time audio/video calling over the internet in its current configuration can never be much more than a toy, an experiment, a diversion, suitable for occasional use but not suitable as a dependable business communication tool.

Without some sort of QoS capability on the internet callers cannot be assured of having a call where both sides can undestand each other in a reasonable conversation.

The interent is a very hostile environment for real time audio/video telephony.
