Well, dear Claire is here visiting and has apparently gotten the bugs out of my web page. We'll try this again! Today will be my 5th day of radiation. It has gone without a glitch. I did have a little discomfort in my eye (an ache) after my first treatment, but sweet Dr. Melian ordered up some fantastic eye drops that have taken care of that!

I have a very pleasant drive to Loyola with one of my many friends who has offered to drive me, we sit in a very pleasant waiting room overlooking a sunken garden in the new Outpatient Pavilion, and the treatment itself takes less than 5 minutes (I have counted - it's 18 seconds of radiation), and then we are off and running for the hour's drive back home. When Claire took me on Monday, we were able to catch a quick hug from Katie McDonough (second year student at the Stritch School of Medicine), and her beau, Tim, who was visiting from out East. Bonus!!!! I found out yesterday that I will begin radiation on my spine tomorrow, which is good because there won't be a very long overlap with my eye and I should be finished with radiation in early October. That is UNLESS we find lymphoma in my thyroid. I have an ultrasound and biopsy today. There are lumps in my thyroid, but we won't know until they biopsy it exactly what they are. I am hoping it's something that will require me to take a medication that will stimulate my thyroid and therefore help me lose weight! Wouldn't that be an unexpected treat??

Sister Sue and Dad arrived yesterday morning. They are both in fine shape - although quite tired, naturally. But Dad came to an early dinner last night and was quite chipper and had just a wonderful time on his extended vacation in SE Asia. Scheister has gone back home with him and seemed terribly confused by the whole thing. Well, he IS 14 years old! Susan brought me silks from the Far East and a wonderful "wheel" of rattan to be hung on a wall. Cancer gifts are the best!! More news as it breaks! xoxo   8:53:14 AM  permalink
