9/29 Well, this is the first day of the last week of my first round of radiation. I had the last treatment on my eye on Friday, and I must admit, I'm glad that part is over. My "graduation" gift was to bring home the plastic mask that I wore during treatment. It is used as a marker so that the beam gets lined up properly each time. I'm going to use it as my Halloween costume this year! (For those of your who are claustrophobic, this is the mask that gets bolted down to the table for each treatment so that my head can't move!) My face is beginning to look 1/2 painted. My friends and family have all been so sweet telling me, "Oh, I really wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't said anything." And then yesterday afternoon, Dave Bottcher, our gutter man (he's wonderful, by the way), showed up at the front door and the first words out of his mouth were, "What happened to your face??" I laughed so hard thinking of the reality of it all!! In David's absence (he's in Ireland with his boyfriends playing golf and having a much-needed vacation), my dear friend Nancy Nemec was my date to a black-tie dinner dance Saturday night. I wore red, hoping the "glow" would even out my face color.

Claire is here with me - she arrived Saturday afternoon, drove into the city to attend Dylan's Elbo Room concert, and returned Sunday afternoon in time for an at-home dinner with Dad and me. We will play this week, between trips to Loyola for my spinal radiation. We are treating ourselves to some beauty - hair, skin, and nail appointments. Our own little mini-spa (eat your heart out, Brookster!!)

So all-in-all, I'd say this is a very good week. David will be home Thursday and Claire leaves Thursday for Virginia to be in her friend Jane's wedding. Life is good! xoxo   8:07:10 AM  permalink
