Monday, Jinni went in for her first MRI, or more accurately the first half of her first MRI. This diagnostic proceedure is the final test in the attempts to find if her cancer has invaded any other areas of her body.
The big buzz around the house was intravenous port she was sporting on her hand Monday night. Because they have to pump some dye into her for the MRI to better do its job they taped one of those things to her hand and left it in overnight so she wouldn't have to get another stick for part two of the test, which was yesterday. Josie and Jesse were quite interested in the device. "Ewww", was a common utterance.
Jinni told me that I would have to help her "flush it out" with saline and a syringe before she went to bed Monday night. But I went up to bed early and promtly fell asleep. I didn't think about how she might have accomplished the flushing until I was driving down to Charlotte yesterday. How'd it go, Jinni?
To keep needle poking to a minimum during the upcoming chemotherapy treatments, Jinni has opted to get a PIC line embedded under her skin on her chest. In this way, when intravenous medicine and fluids need to find a way into her, the doctors and nurses will not have to keep finding new veins - they just hit the port.
Next step: Initial oncology consult Friday morning.
