I met Jinni at the Cancer Center yesterday and I was running late returning from Charlotte. Her first chemo appointment was for 1:30 but I didn't arrive until 3:30 - but I was just in time for the main event.
I walked in and the nurse had just laid out the life giving poison they were getting ready to push into Jinni's system through her Porta-Cath. Three huge syringes held a total 250ml of Epirubicin and I wondered how her system could possible hold that much of the blood red substance. It took about 30 minutes, but they got it all in.
I kept asking the nurse questions about the drug and her responses always included the words 'harsh' and/or 'strong' and the look of concern on her face was apparent... but Jinni didn't care - she just laid there and took it. (Of course the Lorazepam they provided didn't hurt Jinni's demeanor).
We left there with a ton of prescriptions that I will enumerate later, but one in particularcaught my eye. The doctor scribbled out a 'script for a "cranial prothsesis"... aka wig. In this way, if Jinni's decides she wants one, insurance will kick in much of the costs but the prescription left little doubt as to the fate of her mane.
Last night she was fine, although a bit sedated so she went to bed early after eating our first donated dinner - which was wonderful (Thanks JW). This morning, after I got the kids off to school, I crept back upstairs to get her up for her 9:00 appointment back at the Center for an injection of Neulasta. I was fully expecting lethargy. When I walked in she said, "You got time?" "For what?" I asked. "You know", was the familiar reply. "Damn straight I do." Needless to say, so far I like chemotherapy.
She is off to work.
