Here's a Young Hero
Just when you think that kids are going to the dogs, along comes a young man who makes us a bit more confident about the future.
Nate Hassis is quarterback for Southeast High School in Springfield. On
October 25, he was in the last minute of a game and one pass short of a
new conference record. He completed a 37-yard pass, but noticed that no
defenders went after him or the receiver.
Later he learned that both coaches had set up the play so that he could break the record.
And he announced that he wanted no part of such a deal.
The story is receiving national attention, it has Springfield all abuzz
about sports and ethics, and you may read an excellent account of the
incident in today's Washington Post.
Phil Taylor, a columnist for Sports Illustrated and CNN, has suggested that Nate deserves only one title: Sportsman of the Year.
I'd also like to say, shame on those coaches! Jack Turner and Willard
Duey would never cut such a break for their athletes. In our day, we
were taught to suffer, right?

Hot Stuff
I received this from a '58 who shall remain anonymous. In view of my recent experience, I just had to pass it on:
I SHALL SEEK AND FIND YOU...
I SHALL TAKE YOU TO BED AND HAVE MY WAY WITH YOU...
I WILL MAKE YOU ACHE, SHAKE AND SWEAT UNTIL YOU MOAN AND
GROAN.
I WILL MAKE YOU BEG FOR MERCY... BEG FOR ME TO STOP.
I WILL EXHAUST YOU TO THE POINT THAT YOU WILL BE RELIEVED
WHEN I'M FINISHED WITH YOU.
AND YOU WILL BE WEAK FOR DAYS.
ALL MY LOVE,
THE FLU
Now get your mind out of the gutter..............
and GO GET YOUR FLU SHOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
