My post today will be in light of a very recent comment I recieved concerning whether or not feminism was biblical. Well, the only way I can answer this is based on the very limited understanding I have of a) the Bible and b) feminism. So I can not come to this question with a scholarly answer, but I will try to include as much information as I can.

First of all, let's refresh what the term "feminism" will mean in accordance with my answer to your question. Because of the evolution of the term, it will be necessary for me to clearly outline what I am specifically referring to when I use the term.

Feminism (fm-nzm) n.

  1. Belief in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes.
  2. The movement organized around this belief.

So there you have it, feminism in its original form. And though it has transformed its meaning since the seventies, we will be looking for Biblical backup to gender equality. Well, first we can start with the beginning.
