A quote, a quote!

From BERL:

"The muddle is best exhibited in the education sector - where the relationships to regional economic development objectives are not clear. Indeed, we suspect that the Ministry of Education’s round of School Reviews appear not to have any input to or from the appropriate region’s economic development strategy and/or their consequent regional initiatives. If so, the key role of the education sector as a driver of economic activity in a region is being clearly overlooked. In turn this can only be to the detriment of regions’ abilities to attract People, development and, thereby, jobs."

So the school review process is seriously flawed, and can harm our countries economic future. Not only that, the population growth predictions underlying the school review process are being challenged as wrong...

In the last word Trevor Mallard gave on national radio yesterday, he was asked about the possibility of unexpected roll growth. He airily said that he would simply erect some prefabricated classrooms to meet the short-term demand. So there we have it: We are in danger of spending a great deal of money on changing our vibrant schools into prefabricated slums. Chances are history will not mark this minister kindly.
