Trust...

After my musings on why a software company could be at it's most profitable shortly before it dies, I found Eric Sink's latest article on MSDN to of interest. Titled "Tenets of Transparency" Eric notes that when you sell software to people, you are actually expecting them to trust you. He makes the following points (and I quote)

  • They trust that your product will work on their machines.
  • They trust that you will help them if they have problems.
  • They trust that you will continue to improve the product.
  • They trust that you will provide them with a reasonable and fairly priced way of getting those improved versions.
  • They trust that you are not going out of business anytime soon.

All in all, a thought provoking article. So a run down software company can burn not just a potential purchaser of the company, but also anyone who purchases the software sold by the company.
