I Apologise...

I was wrong. 43 year old  Frederic Monneron, a self taught guitarist, has just been given a record deal. His first. So clearly it shows that the music industry is starting to pay attention to the wrinkly wrockers who have not yet found fame and fortune. But the reason why is rather interesting. And IMHO, shows the risk averse nature of the business.

Frederic did not get his contract because a music executive heard him playing in a coffee shop and thought to himself "Listen to that flow, that lyrical content - Gosh, I'd better sign him before the world beats a path to his door".

No, Frederic received his contract because a piece of software said "Ooh Argh, them are loverly tunes". Or something along those lines. Yes - the record companies are yielding song choice to computer programs trained to spot a "hit". You can read all about it here...

And you might even be able to sample Freds delights here...

So I have to apologise. I was wrong. Now that the music industry executives are resigning responsibility for selecting songs, we may indeed see a wave of wrinkly wrock. Remember, you heard it here first.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have heard Fred. I am off to dig my guitar out of the dim recesses of the cupboard I last placed it in all those years ago...
