A Bird Flew Over Yesterday afternoon I drove into the city via the freeway. Up high, a seagull flew. I did not know it was there. As I drove my nose started to tickle and itch. One of those tickles and itches that lead to a sneeze. I tried to fight the sneeze off. Up high, the lone sea gull defecated. I couldn't stop the sneeze. And the fighting to stop it had given it a latent strength. With an almighty explosive force I sneezed. As a cautious driver I did not take my hands off of the steering wheel. As a cautious driver I tried to keep my eyes on the traffic ahead. As a human being I closed my eyes as I sneezed. My watery, out of focus eyes opened to the most awful mess on the windscreen in front me. I was forced to suddenly question the state of my health. Had that really come from my sneeze? No tissue would have saved that... Are those bits of my lungs? What on earth... And slowly it dawned: that overhead a seagull must be flying. And with a flick of the windscreen wipers all returned to normality.
