Acronym mix-up.

Looks like the acronym XAML is getting at least one reporter confused.  Here's an article that discusses Microsoft's new Flash killer - code named Sparkle - still in development in Longhorn.  Sparkle is going to use a new markup language called XAML.  The reporter, however, thinks XAML stands for Transaction Authority Markup Language.  What???  What does Flash-like graphics have to do with transactions?  Nothing...

What's happening is Microsoft created a "so called" new acronym called XAML, to stand for eXtensible Application Markup Language.  This is what Sparkle is based on.  It turns out that XAML also stands for Transaction Authorigy Markup Language - which is a different markup language alltogether, created as a precursor to BTP and BPEL.  Why did this catch my eye?  Because I was the one who threw together the original XAML acronym about 3 years ago.  When I saw the article above that associated the old XAML with MS's Sparkle, I thought "what?".

Anyway - check out Adam Bosworth's blog - because the confusion seems to be seeping around there too.
