Munsel's
I had the spats taken off the Citabria on Friday so we could fly into Munsel Williams' grass strip (there are a couple of inches of snow on the ground.) Saturday was cold (about 14 below freezing) but beautiful - it was a fun flight over to Munsel's although Janet was cold in the back. No problem for me sitting behind a lovely heater... maybe this is divine retribution for all the times I've shivered in the back of her Nanchang. Anyway, landing in the snow was not a problem.
Munsel's strip is only about 8 miles from Oshkosh. People fly or drive there every Saturday morning to drink coffee in his hangar and talk about aeroplanes. From what I can understand this is the continuance of a local tradition that has been going on for 75 years - the community of flyers just keeps renewing itself as time goes on. Today was the Christmas party so there was a big crowd of people and lots of food in the finest Wisconsin tradition.
I had to be at the Museum by noon so sadly (?) we had to leave before Norm Petersen's accordion came out. Anyway, it was nice to go flying, as always it gave me a contented buzz for the rest of the day.
