Bosch Rexroth attracts journalists.

This week the destination is Germany and Bosch Rexroth's first Technology Summit for international editors. This company was formed just over four years ago when Bosch GmbH bought Rexroth (which includes the old Indramat brand) from Mannesman and established Bosch AG. There were no startling product announcements at the event, but it was a good way for us to get a handle on the breadth of products of this company.

I am most familiar with the Indramat side of the business--servo control and CNCs. I knew of the Bosch PC-based control and some other components. We also got quite a briefing on hydraulics and pneumatics and their uses. The US editors got about an hour alone with Herr Grundke, president and CEO, to question him about strategy and performance. The company is doing well right now. It is targeting the US and China as growth areas. Automotive and Food & Beverage/packaging are target industries. The company is proud of its new line of CNC products (MTX) and expects to be a strong number three behind Siemens and Fanuc in that market.

More to come tomorrow, jet lag willing. Next week is the annual ARC Advisory Group Collaborative Manufacturing Forum in Orlando. If you are there, stop me and say Hi.
