Schneider acquisition
One of the hot rumors circulating at Pack Expo was that Schneider Electric had purchased American Power Conversion (APC), a manufacturer of uninterruptable power supplies. I expected to see an email press release, but none was forthcoming. So I asked during my interview with Andy Gravitt yesterday. Lisa Balcerak, my media relations contact, had a copy right there for me. It's true. The two companies have entered into an agreement whereby Schneider will acquire all outstanding shares of APC for a value of approximatel US$5.5 billion. This deal, which still requires approval of APC stockholders and various regulatory approvals, will make Schneider a major player in the critical power market as it merges APC with its current subsidiary, MGE. As the deal is not final, no definitive product plans have been announced
