Airline consolidation I just saw this disheartening news on Yahoo News and AP. US Airways has placed an offer on the table to buy Delta. Around 20 years ago, US Airways (nee US Air- nicknamed "useless air" the name it changed to get away from the previous nickname for Allegheny Air -- "Agony Air") bought Piedmont. Piedmont was a really well run airline. Great service. Did US Air adopt the Piedmont best practices? Nah. Delta has slipped in recent years, but its service is still pretty good compared to some others. Won't be if this buyout goes through.
