Can you believe that the top executives of the U.S. auto industry (the Detroit 3 not so big any more) went to Washington with their hands out to try to get a slice of free money with no plan of what they'd do with it? These guys command people who populate acres of cubicles holding advanced degrees with data and analysis tools who are supposed to filter ideas up the chain for how strategies could be executed. Out of that...nothing. Just a "please give us money, we need it to keep our jobs." Individual Senators may be reasonably intelligent, but as a group that intelligence doesn't always reveal itself. In this case it did when they sent the execs home to complete their homework.
I happened to glance at a headline yesterday in The Wall Street Journal that included the phrase "Big 3." Saw the same in USA Today. In my RSS Feeds of the Chicago Tribune this morning I saw one article with "Big 3" and another with "Detroit 3." Come on main stream media. Get with it. Did you forget about Toyota? These guys are no longer the Big 3, and they way they're going, they'll just be 2 and maybe not in the top 4.
