Just had an optometrist appointment. They have this cool new vision system tool called OptoMap. It needs a better physical interface to the person's eye, but you contort a little and look into the machine. It snaps a picture of a larger part of your retina than a normal exam shows. They snap the pictures of your eyes, then you go back to the Doctor's office and look at your retinas in gory detail. She went over all the details and showed examples of things they can find with the machine that she normally wouldn't have seen. Really interesting. Oh, and hate to tell all the soccer players, parents and coaches out there, but my vision hasn't changed for a long time. She says she'll testify that I can see ;-)

I see Palm is laying off people. I've used a Palm since they first came out--1996, I believe. I've used it as a PDA, a tablet PC (taking notes, using Documents to Go) and a smart phone. I hoped the Treo would combine all the parts along with email. It just isn't powerful enough. It hangs when I try to take notes--and that must be reliable. So I bought a non-phone Palm for the notes function (and a few other things). Just not good. I visited the Palm Store a couple of weeks ago and the shelves were bare. There used to be a huge ecosystem of applications. Now almost empty. That tells a tale. Palm has languished for a long time now by not getting more powerful chips and up-to-date operating system. Time for an iPhone, or Blackberry Storm?
