HOLD FOR SHREK, PLEASE

From unmediated.org:

LG Electronics revealed Monday the world's first terrestrial digital-media-broadcasting (DMB) cell phone. It allows consumers to watch television on their cell phones using the Digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) service that allows people to watch broadcasts on both their cell phones and specially developed mobile receivers. DMB uses both terrestrial and satellites to stream low data-rate video.

WORKING TOWARD MEDIOCRITY

Robert McHenry, former editor-in-chief of Encyclopedia Brittanica, takes a look at Wikipedia and comes up with an interesting analogy: a public washroom. From his piece at Tech Central Station:

...the earlier versions of the article [the entry on Alexander Hamilton] are better written overall, with fewer murky passages and sophomoric summaries. Contrary to the faith, the article has, in fact, been edited into mediocrity.

Is this a surprising result? Not really: Take the statements of faith in the efficacy of collaborative editing, replace the shibboleth "community" with the banal "committee," and the surprise dissolves before your eyes.

Interesting piece and a much more informed commentary on Wikipedia than we're used to seeing.
