Well, after reading as much of the help files as I could stand to, here I am writing my first post on Radio UserLand. I already had a blog over on another site, but I'm trying out Radio UserLand on a recommendation. Definitely more features, and it is nice to know that I have a local copy as well as a remote copy. I'll see in the next 30 days if UserLand proves worthy of the cost their asking.
Assuming I stick with this, here's what I envision for this blog. I see this blog, first, as a place for my family to visit, especially those members of my family who aren't close by. Here, they can read about my kids, what they're doing, how they're growing, and so on. They can read about us - the family as a whole - and how things are. It's a family (my family) oriented journal.
That's just the start, though. The "categories" feature of UserLand begs for more content on diverse subjects. So, after I've settled into the groove of my family journal, I'll probably write something that is geared toward other audiences, such as my friends, maybe my colleagues, and almost certainly the SQL Server community (since I'm a DBA, and SQL Server is where I spend most of my days and a lot of my nights). I'll probably find a need, eventually, for an "off topic" category, or something like that. My tastes and hobbies are eclectic and often short-lived, so I'm certain to have my interests caught by something new every now and again, something that doesn't fit into the normal mold of this blog, and I'll want to talk about it.
But, that's all in the future. For now, I dedicate this blog to my family. I only hope that I can keep it going.
