On a massive scale [posted by Troy] Here's a great story from the world of academics, Alleged Plagiarism at Southern Illinois U. to Be Investigated by New Commission. It seems that SIU's strategic plan is a word for word copy of the Texas A&M strategic plan. They basically swapped the word "Texas" with the word "Illinois." Here is a quote from a Chronicle of Higher Ed article:According to the plans, the two universities face the same two-page list of "critical concerns" (see "Vision 2020", pages 20-23, and "Southern at 150: Critical Concerns"), and a nearly identical eight-point list of "primary gaps," including "low research dollars in the sciences" and a "less attractive community than larger metropolitan areas" (see "Vision 2020", page 121, and "Primary Gaps Facing SIUC", page 1). In some cases, the same flow-chart graphics were used to illustrate the planning process. There are, to be sure, some differences. The Texas A&M plan notes that the university "is judged and will continue to be judged by how well it serves the citizens of the State of Texas." The Southern Illinois plan, on the other hand, says that it "is judged and will continue to be judged by how well it serves the citizens of the State of Illinois."
