Milk Is Fattening, But Dairy Fat Is Not The Culprit
Milk may make for heavier kids, study finds Mon Jun 6, 5:55 PM ET
Some interesting tidbits in this study that shows that not only should kids not be relying on milk in their diets for healthy bones or for weight control, the government-recommended 2 to 3 (or more) servings per day of dairy products may actually be making our national overweight problem worse. Add to that the findings from this study that show that not only does the government-recommended skim milk contain less nutrition value than whole milk, the skim milk appears to be more fattening!
The authors also suggest that the basic beverage for our kids should be water, citing many countries of the world where kids rarely drink milk but still manage to grow up with healthy bones, with another, different study suggesting that exercise was at least as important to the development of strong healthy bones as diet.
Plenty of exercise, fresh air and sunshine, whole milk, pure water, and fresh leafy green vegetables to build healthy children - maybe grandma was right after all...
Cheers, Nurse Mark (who is just back from his morning run in the sun and hasn't had a glass of milk in many years, but loves his fresh veggies...)
