To Nutrition and Health-Conscious Individuals,

For years, a struggle has been underway in Europe by vested interests
to REMOVE vitamins and minerals from the store shelves, and impose a
weak, low-dose vitamin standard upon other nations, including the USA.

Natural vitamins and minerals help people to stay healthy! Having
these products available to consumers is a big THREAT to some
companies who'd rather that you be sick -- then PAY big bucks for
prescription medications.

There have been some victories, and some defeats in Europe about
this subject. I have been told that the U.S. Senate has already passed
CAFTA. Now, the battle has moved to the U.S. House of Representatives.

There is clearly an international effort to take away people's
freedoms to buy potent, effective vitamins, minerals and supplements.
We need to let Congress know that NO treaty should EVER overturn or
interfere with our American health freedoms.

This is a time to write your Congressperson and advise him/her that
you DO NOT WANT any provisions in CAFTA (the Central American Free
Trade Agreement) related to vitamins, minerals and nutritional
supplements to force "harmonization" of U.S. laws to European
"Codex" requirements, thereby destroying the protection afforded to
Americans under the 1994 DSHEA (Dietary Supplement Health & Education
Act.)

And while you're about it, you might ask your Congressperson what
OTHER sneaky provisions are in CAFTA and various treaties before
Congress, which interfere with American rights?

Some "good news" in this "health freedom" fight is shown below.

Excerpt from

Opinion by Consumer Advocate Tim Bolen
Thursday, July 14th, 2005

... the "health freedom movement" upset years of "Big Pharma" deviousness,
manipulation, and maneuvering when that Court, reviewing the Alliance
for Natural Health's (ANH) lawsuit over the so-called "EU Food
Supplements Directive", decided to keep the "risk assessment"
guidelines, but to ONLY apply them to supplements made in
"Big Pharma" laboratories - not those based in natural ingredients
normally found in the human diet. Had the "EU Directive" stood as
it was, most supplements would have been removed from European
shelves August 1, 2005. Now, that won't happen.

Excerpt from July 12, 2005 press release at

...the Alliance for Natural Health (ANH) has today succeeded in
getting a ruling from the European Court of Justice that requires
the controversial EU Food Supplements Directive to be very sharply
circumscribed in its application.

...Had the ban on vitamins and minerals been implemented without
the restrictions imposed now by the ECJ:

Over 5000 products would have disappeared from the shelves of UK
health stores as a result of the ban removing access to over 300
vitamin and mineral ingredients (out of a total of about 420).
These include, among others, the main natural forms of Vitamin E,
several forms of vitamin C, the key natural form of folic acid,
MSM and a range of minerals such as vanadium, silicon and boron,
all being products which millions of consumers choose to take
as part of their regular health regime and have done so without
any ill effects for many years.
