NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - The ever-popular low-carbohydrate diets appear to work because they force people to eat more protein, which consequently suppresses the appetite, not because of a lower carbohydrate intake, according to new study findings published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - In addition to its effects on homocysteine, an amino acid linked to heart disease, folate may protect against a certain type of stroke. Specifically, investigators found that folate, a B vitamin found in green leafy vegetables, fruits and dried beans, appears to lower the risk of hemorrhagic strokes, strokes caused by bleeding in the brain.

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Low body levels of chromium, a mineral involved in carbohydrate and fat metabolism, are associated with an increased risk of heart attack, according to a new report. However, the value and safety of chromium supplementation remains to be determined.
