Governors urge president, Congress not to cut Medicaid.
The Nat'l Governors Assoc on 12/22/2004 said any strategy to reduce the
federal deficit by shifting federal Medicaid costs to states would be
“unacceptable, as “Medicaid continues to impose severe strains
on state budgets. In a letter to President Bush and congressional
leaders, the nation’s governors said reforming the Medicaid system
“should not be part of a 2006 FYE budget reduction and reconciliation
process, especially if it does nothing more than shift additional costs
to states. The governors said state Medicaid case loads had
increased by roughly one-3rd in the past 4 years, a key driver of
Medicaid spending increases. [Medicare/ Medicaid News from myHealthcareNews.com]
