Buzz Word Alert: Mobcasting Looks like we have a new blogsphere buzzword emerging: MOBCASTING

Check out this piece:

When Mobile Podcasting Leads to Mobcasting

Interesting idea  - Podcasting + RSS + Activism.

It's a kinda iPod Shuffle meets indymedia; "STRIFE IS RANDOM" ;-)

3G phones get ready for primetime! Just got  my new 3G Phone.
After a couple of months of playing with other handsets on the new Vodafone
3G service - I have finally found one that I like - the Nokia 6630.

This is a good phone.

Some highlights:

*Updated Symbian Series 60 OS
* Full bluetooth profile ( which is becoming rarer and rarer - see Verizon's recent suit)
*3G surfing from Powerbook via bluetooth ( as good as DSL - but only for when there is no Wi-Fi around - as the cost can get out of hand if you go over you montly download allowance ( depending on plan) )
* 1.3 mega-pixel camera - that's a res of 1280x960 - bigger than most desktops
* Full Video record and Playback via REAL Player
* Side Loading MMC Card ( 32 Mb included - will be upgrading!)

and because Symbian Series 60 is becoming a mature platform so there are lots of apps available - some ones I like:

Opera Mobile browser is an excellent cellphone browser, which also supports HTML is small and full page mode - works especially well with the fast 3G connection ( I am also looking forward to trying out the mini-Firefox named Mozilla Minimo )

For those of you who want to keep up with your RSS feeds while mobile - this is a cool App -  Wildpalm's HEADLINE reader, Feedburner's mobile reader is good too.

Saling Clicker is also a very useful app for controlling your Mac via your phone ( presentations, iTunes)

More apps to come as I find them....:-)

also - the themes are rockin'

Symbiote

Good themes site;

But ....2 Gripes......

1. iSync on the Mac supports the 6600 but not the 6630 yet - which sucks 'cos i can't sync my calendar/addressbook - which is a pity, as the 6630 onboard calendar is not bad. But I hear that support is on the way from Apple ....come on Apple - hurry up....

2. The excellent BLUE Phone SMS App - that I had used for a while with my nokia 6230 for sending/recieving SMS from my Powerbook -no longer works with the 6630 - but the site says they are working on it ... so soon we may get all the way there :-)

Caller ID Alert Screenshot

...but aside from the gripes ...it's a good phone...
so I'll post more as i get used to it and I'll see what it is like viewing Havoc Tv music videos and other stuff that Wildwave put on the Vodafone 3G service......
