Sunday Business Post Article on Podcasting
![]() Yesterday's Business post article on podcasting... With a pic of me and alex:-) The article seemed focused on the business aspects of podcasting and not on the medium's potential to expand how people produce and consume media. But I suppose, the magazine is called "Computers in Business", so it's fair enough to try for a business angle. I personally think that good podcasts that connect with a decent sized audience and maybe approach what they do in a different manner to that of mainstream media, will totally get sponsors and advertisers. However, that does not mean that every podcast should go this route. The vast majority of podcasts will stay alive because they CAN and they will be largely labours of love for their creators. And this is how is should be.
I am not a fan of every company having a podcast, but there are cases where it could be useful e.g. when a company wants to communicate to a specific audience, either directly or indirectly, and is confident that podcasting is the way to go. Although, if these podcasts are just advertorial for the company's products, then I think the corporate podcast is doomed. Either give information that is valuable to that audience ( e.g. A pharma company producing a podcast of interesting medical talks ) or entertain the audience ( e.g. a beer company doing a live music or comedy podcast). The important thing is that they must know their audience and not just podcast because it is the buzz of the moment.
